Consulting for Minor/Major Electrical Repairs

Are you facing significant electrical repair bills? Would you like a relatively low-cost second opinion on whether you need all the expensive electrical repairs to be done? Are you trying to prioritize which major home improvement item(s) to tackle first, especially the ones requiring power / electrical repairs or improvements?

Well, you’ve come to the right place! One of my passions is helping to teach and educate homeowners on their options when it comes to electrical repairs.

A Recent Example - Is a new power panel really needed?

Recently I provided service to a homeowner who wanted a replacement electric cooktop to be installed because one of her burners had gone out. In fact, her current electric cooktop AND oven were no longer working (as a result of some troubleshooting that had left some wires disconnected). In addition, she had scheduled an electrician to come the next day to upgrade the circuit breaker panel in order to get the oven and electric cooktop working again (at an estimated cost of ~$6K).

After discussing the situation in detail with the homeowner and examining the existing applicance power connections, I informed her that I could get her oven power connected again immediately, and that the panel upgrade was not necessary to do this. The homeowner was feeling under pressure to make the panel upgrade (her oven was not working!), but it wasn’t necessary to solve the immediate problem.

The customer decided to have me go ahead and reconnect the power to the oven, and canceled the panel upgrade job that was scheduled for the next day! She was very excited to have her oven working again, and if she wants to upgrade her panel at a later date, she can easily do so, without having the pressure of out-of-service appliances driving the replacement, giving her time to gather quotes from more than one electrician.

What if my repair issue is not electrical - but something else?

My specialty is minor electrical repairs. I do have experience though, with a broad range of other disciplines. With over 40 years of engineering and project management experience, and over 35 years of homeowner and home repair experience, I’ve seen a lot. I’d be glad to consult with you about any non-electrical home repair issues you may have. If I don’t know much about a given subject, I will tell you. If I can point you to a reliable contractor who I think can help you, I will do that. I’d like to help you make informed decisions about major repairs without feeling pressured.

If you are facing some large electrical (or other) repairs or are feeling pressure to make an expensive home repair decision quickly, please consider contacting me for a consultation visit!
