Door Repair in Lexington, KY

Are you frustrated with some of your doors that don’t close easily or completely? Do you have a sliding door that binds? Do some of your doors close fine in dry weather, but in humid weather start binding? Are your keyed doors old, and you’d like to switch the keyed door lock out with a new keyless door lock? Well, you’ve come to the right place, as I specialize in repairing doors.

Door issues are one of the more common problems that homeowners have. Since a door is built with several moving parts and houses tend to settle over time, doors will always need maintenance or repair. Whether it’s an entry door, bedroom door, pocket door, folding door, or patio sliding door, I can help!

Common Door Issues & Repairs

  1. Door won’t close - This is typically caused by a house settling over time. Settling is caused when the wood that your home is built with dries, or the ground settles underneath the house. As the wood dries, it also shrinks and warps slightly. This is natural and happens with every stick-built home. Unfortunately, it can deform the frame of the door keeping the door from closing properly. When this occurs on an exterior door and the weather seals don’t make contact upon closing the door, you may start to experience a draft and heat loss. You’re actually doing the environment a favor by having the door fixed or installing a new, more insulated door.

  2. Door won’t latch - This can be caused by either worn out hardware or settling in the home. This is a very simple fix and can usually be done in less than an hour. This issue is also commonly seen on sliding patio doors due to the nature of the locking mechanism.

  3. Patio door is hard to slide - This can be caused by either worn out rollers, a worn track, a bad door installation, or even just dirt buildup on the track. If you think your patio door is more difficult to move than it used to be, you’re probably right. Don’t worry, it can be fixed.

  4. Drafty door - If your door is closing properly or the weather seals have broken down, you may be feeling a cold draft in the winter months. Depending on what the issue is, the weather seals can be replaced, or the door frame can be adjusted to close properly. Either way, the cost of fixing the door may save you money in the long run.

  5. Deadbolt won’t lock - Here is another issue that can be caused by settling in the home. This is a very simple fix and can usually be done in less than an hour. Typically, there is no frame adjustment required. Simply moving the strike plate can solve this issue.

  6. A Keyless Door Entry is desired - Modern electronic locks have greatly enhanced the door entry process. We’ve installed two in our house and haven’t had to change the batteries in more than a year. This allows us to give the code to someone in an emergency or in specific situations to allow them to access our house.
