Install Ceiling Fan in Lexington, KY

Do you have an overhead light in a room, but would rather have a ceiling fan with a light? Do you have an older ceiling fan that looks ugly, is outdated, is beginning to make noise or humming sounds, or perhaps doesn’t work at all? Or, maybe you have a ceiling fan, but it doesn’t have a light, and you’d like to be able to provide central lighting (potentially dimmable) for your room? Or, perhaps you are tired of using the wall switch or hanging chain(s) on your ceiling fan / light, requiring you to get up and down each time you want to change fans speeds or switch the light on/off - and you’d rather have a remote control to allow you to change fans speeds or turn on/off/dim the lights from the comfort of your chair or sofa?

Well, you’ve come to the right place! One of my specialties is installing or replacing ceiling fans!

PROS OF CEILING FANS

Your room will feel more comfortable: The primary reason people install ceiling fans is to feel cooler during the summer months. Ceiling fans are useful for cooling only when they move air over skin. They cool our bodies in two ways: by aiding evaporative cooling and by aiding circulating the cool air from your air conditioner. If the air movement created by a ceiling fan isn’t hitting anyone’s skin, it is producing limited cooling benefit. You’ll want to make sure you size your fans blades and speeds to maximize the cooling effect in a given room. I’d be glad to help you in determining the right size fan for your room and cooling needs.

Add dimmable central lighting: One of the nice features of modern ceiling fans is that many of them include an integrated, or optional, light. Many of these lights are also dimmable, allowing you to change the lighting level in the room. Typically, you will not use this overhead light very often, but it’s nice to have a central overhead light available when needed.

Remote control: Many newer ceiling fans have a remote control, allowing you to easily control the fan speed and light from the comfort of your bed, chair, or sofa.

Low noise: Modern name-brand ceiling fans (think Hunter) are typically well-made and make hardly any noise when they are running. Even the best brands of ceiling fans, though, may eventually experience problems. We had a name brand ceiling fan in our living room that we had had for over 12 years start humming and making noise at low speeds (the speed we normally operate it at). This noise became quite annoying and distracting over time. After troubleshooting the fan, removing the blades, etc., I determined that the noise was coming from the non-accessible, non-maintainable fan motor. After replacing the ceiling fan with a newer model, the new fan is now whisper quiet!

Easy to assemble: Ceiling fan manufacturers have made great strides in improving the manufacturability and assembly of their ceiling fans. Depending on which brand and model you get, they can be assembled much quicker and more easily than older models.

CONS OF CEILING FANS

Installation requires working with 120 VAC: Installation of ceiling fans requires working with 120 VAC power connections. You’ll want to make sure power has been removed when installing your fan. If you are comfortable working with 120 VAC, this is not very difficult. I am familiar with 120 VAC power precautions and would be glad to help you get a new ceiling fan installed!

Installation requires a sturdy ceiling junction box: Installation of a ceiling fan requires that the fan be hung from a powered junction box, usually located in the center of the ceiling of the designated room. Typically, there is already a junction box available, making it a straightforward process to remove the existing fixture, and then install the new ceiling fan / light fixture. In some cases, though, there may not be a powered junction box already located in the ceiling. This means that power needs to be run to the designated location (typically via the attic), and a junction box securely installed in the proper location. This will likely significantly increase the cost of the ceiling fan installation. Whatever your situation, I’ll be glad to review with you what needs to be done and advise accordingly.
